“Big Front Wheel”
This guy is goin’ all out, with a spoked wheel moving so fast that it almost looks like a polished one-piece rim. Who knows if this near-illusion planted a thought in some young designer’s mind, only to be realized years later with CNC technology. What’s clear is that a fenderless, brakeless front wheel and a jockey shift made for uncomplicated lines from handlebar to axle nuts. The conchos’ leather strips on the rider’s chaps function like mini-leather windsocks, which along with his blown-back, wind-whistled hair, clearly reflect the amount of horsepower making its way to the rear wheel. As anyone who’ ever ridden a panhead opened up at full throttle down a lonely stretch of night highway knows, motorcycles offer a sensation of peace, power and solitude that cannot be easily described. However, David’s detailed depiction of such an experience leaves only the sound lacking. And as this biker’s composure suggests, that wind-filled ride may be all the song your soul will ever need.
