1977 Suzuki PE250 – “The best mass produced enduro bike ever built” (Nov. ’76 Cycle World)

Suzuki’s PE250 was put through a test by Cycle World that would have “broken an anvil.” Instead, after 1004 grueling Baja miles “the riders were exhausted,” and “the PE250 was intact and running strong. Any serious competitor can expect to run the engine for at least 1000 miles before overhaul.” The PE250 enduro is intended for competition use only. It is not intended for street use.

1977 Bultaco Sewing Machine? Ridiculous.

According to our founder, F.X. Bulto, if Bultaco made sewing machines or anything besides motorcycles, one or the other would suffer. It’s a matter of engineering. Bultaco engineers, including F.X. himself, have one responsibility. To design the best off road bike possible. Contrast this with an engineer who divides his time between bobbins one week and brake shoes the next. At Bultaco our engineering expertise results in an extremely dependable bike. One that makes riding so rewarding. Whether you’re competing or cowtrailing. This dependability also lets us offer a full 60 day warranty on our bikes. Other motorcycle manufacturers may put their engineering and names on other products. You’ll see the Bultaco name on just one. A dependable motorcycle. Built by a company that makes motorcycles. And nothing else.

1977 Kawasaki – we come from a long line of four strokes.

From the mighty Z-1000 on down to the tough new KZ200, these road machines have one thing in common. They’re designed around four stroke powerplants. Because when it comes to serious roadwork, nothing quite gets the job done like a four stroke. Consider the engine that powers our Z-1000 and 1000 LTD models. You’ve go to call it a jewel of engineering (if anything that size could be called a jewel) with its direct-action double overhead camshafts and its crankshaft that runs on six caged roller bearings. Or our classic looking KZ750 vertical twin with its unique contra-rotating balance weights that cancel out the vibrations vertical twin lovers used to take for granted – a feature that we have also integrated into our 400 series bikes. Or our new, high performance 650/4 engine which, despite its deceptively quiet operation, is capable of blowing off a lot of 750′s. So swing a leg over one of Kawasaki’s road bikes for 1977. And we think you’ll agree that when it gets down to the four strokes, Kawasaki’s got it made. Kawasaki – We know why you ride.

1977 Harley-Davidson Super Glide – there is no bigger street bike

You’re looking at the biggest of them all. The largest single-engine displacement of any stock street motorcycle in the world. 1200 cc’s of raw power. Probably more power than you’ll ever need or use. Stoplight to stoplight, its performance is legendary. The low-end torque incredible. Yet, for 1977, the Super Glide is even more powerful, thanks to the addition of a performance oriented, 2 into 1 Collector exhaust system. There are other changes: A kick starter that pivots into the frame, out of your way. A cleaner, sleeker designed frame and engine. An optional black cast rear wheel. But the classic, low-slung look is the same. Lean and narrow. The seat is the lowest of the Super Bikes, once again. So you can actually put both feet on the ground, instead of tipping from side to side like a ballerina. The deep, guttural Harley-Davidson sound is the deep, guttural Harley-Davidson sound. We didn’t make a lot of changes on the Super Glide for ’77. We simply tok the biggest street bike ther is, and made it more powerful. After all, there’s a reason why the Super Glide is the most popular of the Harley-Davidson Super Bikes. So we’re not about to make changes just for change’s sake, alone. You don’t mess with the biggest guy on the block. Until you’ve been on a Harley-Davidson, you haven’t been on a motorcycle.
