Circa 1969 Bultaco Sherpa T Trials Motorcycle Brochure with photos and specs

In 1965 we made a Trials machine, the Sherpa T, that made history at the tough Scottish Six Day Trial. First time ever that the event was won by a foreign machine…first time ever to be won by a two-stroke. It that was not enough we repeated the win in 1967 and 1968. Also winner of the British Trial Championship…three times! and in 1968 the first European Trials Championship ever held. You’d think we’d take it easy and let things slide for a while. Not so. The back-room boys in our research departments are restless. They saw several ways to make the Sherpa T perform better, steer better, and to increase the reliability. Impossible! you’d say if you own one of these machines. Well, try one of these new 5 speed models, and see for yourself!

1975 Ossa 250 Super Pioneer Road Test / Specs

A capable woods bike complete with a major flaw – the lack of long-travel rear suspension…At first glance, the Super Pioneer is striking as long as one doesn’t mind a rather drab and uninspiring color like greenish gold. Compared to the old Pioneer, the new model boasts more practical fiberglass styling, though we’d much rather see those glass fenders replace with flexible plastic…

1975 Harley-Davidson FXE-1200 – what is it about a Harley-Davidson?

With so many look-alike bikes around these days, it’s reassuring to know that ther’s still one motorcycle that stands apart. The Harley-Davidson. What is it about this machine that makes it so unique, so instantly recognizable? It’s sound. Take the FXE-1200 on your left. Even blindfolded, you would know it’s a Harley-Davidson. Because it has that incomparable Harley-Davidson sound. Quiet – yet deep, rich and powerful. A thing of beauty. It’s torque. With the FXE as with all the Harley-Davidson superbikes, it’s positively psychedelic. A king of the road feeling of power. It’s styling. The FXE, for example, is the classic’s classic. The last word in lean, muscular elegance. It’s all the other things that make a Harley-Davidson a Harley-Davidson. Precision engineering. Unmatched attention to detail. A 70-year heritabge of superb craftsmanship…

1975 Kawasaki KZ-400D Parking Meter Police Officer Ad

Nobody was looking, so I figured I could get away with it, sneaking a dime into the meter, while he was diggin’ on my Kawasaki. No such luck. I’m out five bucks. Which doesn’t seem fair somehow…I mean over-parked bikes costin’ as much as over-parke cars. Then againm, the ticket didn’t hurt so bad because he liked my bike so much. In fact, I felt kinda good when he started asking me questions about it. At first he asked the sort of nuts and bolts things you’d expect. And I told him, yeah, it’s a KZ-400D, with the 389cc 4-stroke engine, 5-speed trans, electric starter and front-disc brake. Then he really did a number on my head. Did I like the handling? What about in traffic? Would it make a good tourer? How’s the suspension? How’s the ground clearance when it’s really laid over? Did I like the layout of the controls? How’s the throttle response? What about vibration? How was the saddle for long rides? Did I like the positioning of the bars? Is there an lurch in the drive train? What about this? What about that? He really knew bikes. And by the time we finished, I definitely felt he wanted a KZ-400D for himself. I don’t blame him, either. After tooling around all day on a 3-wheeler, cops should have fun too. Excuse me, I mean police officers.

1975 Husqvarna 250WR – Dick Burleson 4 Enduro wins

Dick Burleson didn’t ride our stock 250WR as is to 4 straight National Enduro wins. He change the handle bars. Evolution – it created our new cross-country 250. Trails are getting more rugged. Speed continues to climb. A tougher, faster machine was needed. So we took our G.P. 250 motocrosser that Kent Howerton rode to the Trans-AMA championship, fitted it with a six speed wide ratio gearbox, designed a new quieter double-walled expansion chamber, and improved intake and engine silencing. The result is a machine that carries Dick Burleson to the winners circle time after time – it can take you there too!

1975 “A Triumph Takes a Long Time to Build” Ad

A Triumph takes a long time to build. But then it stays built a long time. In an age of quick assembly and mass production, the Triumph stands out as a stubborn hold-over from another age. Take the Triumph crank, for example. It’s not merely asembled and pressed together from individual parts that could shift under stress. It’s machined from a solid piece of steel by a skilled craftsman who most likely grew up with Triumph…the others could build a Triumph. If they’d only take the time.

1975 Kawasaki 900 Motorcycle and a Bedroll

Why’s Sylvia Harpin’ at me to take her on trips all the time? How come she doesn’t understand I got a business to run, can’t go flittin’ around like I’m some kind of kid on a motorcycle? Kawasaki…900…900 what? Where’s that kid goin’ on that thing anyway with a bedroll? Can’t sail it to Hawaii can he? Can’t fly it to Acapulco can he? Kids. Wonder what it’s like just traveling’ alone on a motorcycle with your bedroll. No traveler’s checks. Going’ anywhere you want. How’s a guy get along? What if I said, “Sylvia, so long for two weeks, maybe more, I’m hittin’ the road on my Kawasaki motorcycle and my bedroll and that’s the way it is”? Where would I go? Wyoming? Maybe first the ol’ home town’s where I’d go Wonder what they’d say. Elton, he’d come out of his drug store and say, “Hey, Murray, thought you were in the travel business.” And I’d say, “Business got boring, so I’m traveling.” Wonder if Margaret Stevens is still there. Maggie. “C’mon, Maggie, I’m taking you away from here. Goin’ to Wyoming. Don’t pack, just bring yourself.” Bet she’s prettier than ever. Maggie. Dumb kid. Why’d he go and park that thing in front of my place for?
